Fire Lane Striping, Signs, and Requirements
Fire lanes are designated areas of your parking lot to allow quick access to emergency vehicles and fire trucks to enter your property and assist in the event of an emergency. Fire lanes are not to be occupied by normal vehicles and parking in a fire lane is only for emergency vehicles.
There are specific striping requirements that must be followed when striping the fire lane in your parking lot. Restriping Your Fire LanesKeeping fire lanes marked clearly is important for everyone’s safety. You should have your fire lanes restriped about once a year, but several factors contribute to how often you need to restripe.
The first thing to consider is the amount of traffic that goes through your parking lot. If there is a lot of traffic your striping will fade faster because tires will wear down the paint. Weather is another thing to think about. Harsh weather like heavy rain and snow will make the paint fade faster, but if your fire lane is protected by trees or other types of overhangs, then it’s possible your striping will be protected and you won’t have to restripe as often. If you live in a milder climate or your lot does not get a lot of traffic, you might be able to only restripe every two years. On the other hand, if your climate is extreme and you have a lot of traffic, you will need to restripe more often. |
